Simple Things Digest

Hi Reader,

It's Sharon from Simply Home, back with a new edition of the Simple Things Digest.

Today, I'm sharing what happened behind the scenes once the camera stopped rolling on my home tour video and introducing our September theme.

On a Personal Note

Right after my niece and I finished filming my home tour, we, along with my daughter and husband, hopped in the car and headed to lunch.

On the drive to the restaurant, I pulled out my phone, went to the media library and opened the home tour video.

“Wow! I look pretty,” I thought.

I watched on as I rose from my seat where I'd introduced the home tour and walked over to the built-in bookcases. My eyes grew wide in shock. I had no idea I’d gotten so big, so round.

Hopefully the camera really does add ten pounds, I reasoned.

From that moment on, my attention wandered back and forth between what I observed to be a bright inner light and my surprisingly big body.

I grieved, not over the weight gain, but over the idea my true self--- my spirit—was almost completely hidden by the extra pounds. I felt so sorry for the version of me that was suffocating under all that weight.

Tears spilled down my cheeks at the thought as I fell asleep that night.

"Your true self can't actually be burdened."

The next morning, still upset, I shared my grief with my husband.

“Your true self can't actually be burdened ,” he assured me.

He went on to suggest that my spirit--the divinity in me-- is carrying and supporting the parts of me that are still reckoning with the truth of who I am.

Something about his words strengthened my resolve to return to get back to the me I’m created to be.

I thought we could return to ourselves together. I’m calling it a Fall Reset.

Throughout the month we'll focus on our heart, time, and home.

We're going to kick off our reset by wading into the sometimes uncomfortable waters of ‘self’, starting by redefining self-care.

Then, in the coming weeks, we’ll:

  • establish rhythms and routines that are in alignment with our values and priorities
  • boost our confidence with a closet edit
  • learn how to create space for ourselves in our homes

Let's dive in!

Hi Reader, It's Sharon from Simply Home, back with a new edition of the Simple Things Digest. Today, I'm sharing what Fall, Coke, and Comfort have in common. On a Personal Note Finding comfort has been my life’s pursuit. When I think I’ve found it, whether it’s in my home, friendships, food, or in a role, I tend to tighten my grip around that thing as if everything depends on it—even when it’s something as small as a fountain Coke. I’ve been a soda drinker since childhood, but through the...

Hi Reader, It's Sharon from Simply Home, back with a new edition of the Simple Things Digest. And man, do I have a story for you... On a Personal Note It was mid afternoon on Friday the thirteenth. (I’m not superstitious. I just mean it was Friday and it was the thirteenth.) Ninety potential jurors, including me, had been at the courthouse since nine a.m. We’d finally finished the questioning phase and were waiting on the lawyers to make their strikes from the jury pool. In the meantime, the...

Simply Home Hot off the blog! I'd gotten so carried away with expanding my capacity to be and do more that I was starting to feel lost...almost forgotten. So, this week I decided to listen to the nudging of my soul and push the reset button on how I plan my days and spend my time. I still wrote down my priorities for the week. And I stuck to my general weekly routine…housekeeping on Monday, errands on Tuesday, etc. Other than that, I let each day unfold without rushing to ‘get to work’ or...
